Possible over heating issue

Hows it goin yall? Today while I was sitting in the parking lot of my daughters dentist office, I noticed my Focus was starting to over heat. I know the fans are supposed to turn on at a certain temp but obviously they didnt. The gauge didnt come down until I got on the highway. The ws low but it wasn't. It only took maybe a half gallon. Is this something I should be concerned about and if so what do I need to check?
