Hello everyone,
New here but not to Ford vehicles. I previously had a escort for a work car. I sold that due to age, mileage and condition. I upgraded to a 2002 ZX5 hatchback with the 2.0 zetec. Have a question about the gas gauge on this car. I filled it up today becuase the gauge read a little below an 1/8 of a tank. I drove roughly 165 miles thus far. When I filled it up it only took 6.7 gallons. I know these cars have like a 13.4 gallon tank, so I still had almost 6 gallons of gas left in the tank. So roughly getting 26.7 miles per gallon. Is this the norm on these cars? Seems odd. I do know the previous owner bought it at auction not running, and it was the fuel pump causing that issue. When he replaced the pump could he somehow thrown off the float in the tank?

Yes it could be very likely that he bent the fuel pump float since it's attached to the fuel pump.

It doesn't seem to stay on full long. The last tank I went to the fuel light came on and then some. Still only took 10 gallons. The needle didn't drop as rapidly though that tank it seemed to me.

There's still about 2 gallons in the tank once the fuel light goes on.

Thats what I've read. Don't believe I'll go thru the trouble of pulling the tank to replace the float. I'll just fill it up every 300 miles or so. I also noticed that on my hvac controls even when they're set to "0" or off, the vent will still blow warm air? I normally run defrost only but read running the defrost selection will decrease fuel economy due to the compressor being locked in.

Blowing air even with the it's set to 0 is a very common issue with the earlier Focus. To get around that just turn on your recirculating.
