2010 Fiesta Remote central locking.

Hiya guys n gals.
I recently bought a 2010 fiesta which has remote central locking which was in fine working order when i bought it but recently i had to be right by the side of the drivers doir to unlock it so i naturally assumed the battery in the fob needed changing. However having changed the battery in the fob the remote central does not work at all. I can unlock the car via the drivers door & it starts ok but cant seem to figure out why i cant unlock it remotely??

Do both remotes behave in this way? If it's just that particular fob doing that, then you can make a conclusion.

I only have the one key fob remote.

Okay. You might want to consider wear and tear. I have my cars for a long time, twenty years and longer. I had to replace the remotes for my Escort by year nine. They just simply wear out.

Yes im wondering if that may be the case. I take it that means its a main dealer job? Which i guess isnt going to be cheap lol

I can't recall what online shopping equivalent to Amazon or Ebay the U.K. has. I would search that online shopping route and search youtube for a tutorial on programming the remote fob or fobs. That's what I did. It wasn't difficult. The fiesta will only recognize a driver1 and a driver2 remote fob. You might find a good deal online for a pair. Having only one remote is living dangerously. Not to mention the increased wear and tear.

Including the "lockout" - if you have your owners manual handy - look for the Engine Immobilizer in the index...

Start on Page 22 - thru Page 24...

But in all efforts, if you are ok with the "physical Key" and the car starts ok, you should be ok to be without another preprogrammed keyfob. - remember you only have one key for the entire mess. It's just not recommended - unless you like bending your door jamb and/or breaking glass to reach in an open the doors using the Center Console Door Lock/Unlock button. Of course the Alarm . Horn sounding off will let everyone else around you, know of your predicament...

In the US these "keys" start at about $160~$180 EACH.

Well ive managed to locate the orignal fob key thankfully so i have two keys now. Took the remote key this morning to my local Timpsons who tested it & said no signal being emitted from the key. I nearly dropped through the bloody floor when he told me a new key was £194.90!!

Ok. You could press the functional fob into service with no more expense than a fresh battery. You should understand that the best thing to do is replacement of the defective fob. Otherwise you will be in an even worse situation if the backup one also dies! I would think that you should be able to find a suitable replacement fob online for less money than the retail parts counterman offers. These kinds of frustrating issues are unfortunately part of the normal wear and tear process we all must confront. Good to know that you are rolling again.
